33 G/A this season: Prolific Man Utd target prepares for summer release with ‘big club’ admission

One Manchester United target is now seemingly mulling over his options ahead of his anticipated release from his current club.

The player in question is Jonathan David, whom the Red Devils have long been interested in but have never actually gone as far as making a formal approach.

That could all be about to change now, though, as he is in the final three months of his Lille contract and is yet to put pen to paper on a new deal – or show any desire to stay with the Ligue 1 outfit beyond the summer.

United are said to be ‘seriously considering’ a swoop for the soon-to-be-free agent, while Arsenal, Liverpool and West Ham have all been linked over the last year, with all in dire need of strengthening their striking options ahead of 2025/2026.

David, 25, would be a stellar addition to any top-flight squad, not least because he wouldn’t require a transfer fee to add him to the books.

His form this season speaks for itself, too; 23 goals and 10 assists in 41 appearances have aided Lille’s progression to the Champions League last-16 while also having them in the mix for a European spot in the Ligue 1 table; they’re currently sixth-placed and only three points adrift of Monaco in third.

In Europe, David notched goals against both Madrid clubs, Liverpool and Juventus. He also did his bit to try and book his side’s spot in the quarter-finals by scoring and assisting against Borussia Dortmund, but his efforts were ultimately rendered in vain.

After being involved in both goals for Canada’s 2-1 win over the United States on Sunday, the forward was pressed on his future by reporters post-match. He told Golazo America (as cited by MEN): “Obviously, with this summer going on, I am not sure if I am staying or going.

“But if I do end up going, I have to push myself at the very highest level. When you play for a big club, your position [in the team] is never guaranteed, and you need to fight. I am never guaranteed anywhere I go to start every game and play every game – I have to perform.”
