Football League World has taken a look at five players who are out of contract in the summer whom the Robins should aim to bring in.

Bristol City are one of several teams involved in the battle to finish the season in the play-off places, with fifth all the way down to 14th involved in the battle.

This season has been a strong one for the Robins, and under the guidance of Liam Manning they have excelled in the Championship at times.

The West Country outfit have spent the majority of this year involved in the fight for a top six finish, but they do need to show more consistency to help make that final push. However, one eye will now be turning towards the next transfer window.

The summer will be an incredibly busy time for Bristol City and Football League World has taken a look at five soon to be free agents who they should take an interest in during the summer.

Kane Wilson

Derby County signed Kane Wilson on a two-year deal from the Robins at the start of the 2023/24 season, and he has been sensational at right-back for the Rams since.

However, with Paul Warne's side struggling at the bottom end of the Championship, the 24-year-old may be looking for a move away and a return to Ashton Gate could be the perfect way for him to stay in the second tier.

Despite being a full-back by trade, it's Wilson's attacking talents that truly catch the eye, and he could easily be moulded into a winger in the next few years.

Since leaving Bristol City just under two years ago, he has developed and matured into one of the EFL's most exciting right-backs, and they should look to sign him once again.

Kwame Poku

Kwame Poku is due to leave Peterborough United at the end of the season if nothing is done about his contract situation, but with Posh in a surprise fight against relegation, it seems unlikely that he will stay in Cambridgeshire.

One of the most talented players in League One, the winger has more than enough quality to be playing in a higher division and Bristol City must add him to their ranks as he will develop excellently surrounded by other talented young players.

A goalscorer and playmaker, there is very little lacking in the 23-year-old's game and the Robins will only benefit from taking him on.

Harry Darling

Swansea City's Harry Darling looked destined to leave South Wales in the January transfer window, but a move never materialised, and his departure now looks as though it will happen once this season has come to its conclusion.

Bristol City had shown an interest in the defender over the winter, and it would not be a surprise to see them push for a move once again with it looking less and less likely that his contract will be renewed.

Manning's side are in a stronger position than the Swans, and Darling may take advantage of that to try and help get them over the line next season if promotion is missed out on once again in 2024/25.

Tyrhys Dolan

Tyrhys Dolan looks set to leave Blackburn Rovers at the end of the campaign after John Eustace revealed that the two parties had not yet come to agreement over his future at Ewood Park.

The former Preston North End man has shown flashes of brilliance during his time with Rovers and he has the ability to play as a number 10 or out on the left flank, but he has struggled with consistency at times.

Nevertheless, his experience at 23 will appeal to many in the second tier this summer, and if Bristol City could keep him fit, he would be an excellent signing for a team looking to make that step towards promotion.

Emil Riis

There was an incredible amount of debate about the future of Emil Riis in January, but he stayed at Preston and will now see the season out in Lancashire.

However, his contract is due to expire in June, and Bristol City should pounce to bring in a striker with a growing pedigree to help them take that next step to becoming a team consistently involved in the top six battle in the Championship.

Striker options are limited at Ashton Gate, and with Riis' future undecided, they should get involved in the battle to bring him to the West Country. He is on target to reach double figures in goals scored this season, and the Robins would be hard-pressed to find a better option on a free.
