The goalkeeper has withdrawn from the Brazil squad

Alisson Becker says he is fine and will be following protocols after the Liverpool goalkeeper had to be substituted whilst on international duty for Brazil.

Alisson started for Brazil in their 2026 World Cup qualifier against Colombia overnight on Friday, but suffered a nasty clash of heads with former Tottenham defender Davinson Sanchez as he punched away a free-kick delivered into the six-yard box.

He received treatment on the pitch along with Sanchez before being replaced in the 78th minute by Al-Nassr’s Bento.

Issuing an update on Alisson, Brazil’s team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar confirmed he had suffered a suspected concussion and would undergo tests.

"Alisson suffered a head injury and was replaced due to a suspected concussion," he said.

"We will now follow the CBF protocol, and he will undergo the recommended imaging tests, a CT scan and then a diffusion MRI. If all the tests are normal, we will proceed and perform a cognitive test. Then we will evaluate the player.

"He is normal, without any complaints. He did not report any fainting or memory loss.”

It has since been confirmed that Alisson has departed the Brazil camp, making an early return to Liverpool for further assessment which means he will play no part in the huge qualification showdown with arch-rivals Argentina in Buenos Aires on Tuesday night.

Though, the goalkeeper has broken his silence on the injury scare with a message for Liverpool supporters.

“Hey guys, just to let you know I’m fine!” he posted on social media. “Just have to follow the protocols! Thanks for the messages.”

Liverpool will hope Alisson is available for their first game back after the international break - the Merseyside derby at home to Everton on April 2.
