Although it feels like a distant memory, the Ibrox club were heavy favourites to keep hold of the Premiership title during Postecoglou’s debut season in charge of the Hoops.
Having just secured a dominant title under Steven Gerrard, theRangers were in a strong position, while Postecoglou, then largely unfamiliar, was seen as an underwhelming choice for Celtic after Eddie Howe’s failed move.
The rocky beginning in Glasgow only added to the doubts, but once Postecoglou found his stride, there was no looking back. His Celtic team dominated the Premiership, maintaining their superiority which included a Treble in season 2022/2023 until his departure for Tottenham.

However, that move has not proven to be a major success. Postecoglou now relies on the Europa League, where his side will meet Manchester United in the final in Bilbao, to salvage their season after a woeful campaign in the league. However, he has made it clear to his critics that this is not the first time he has faced such challenges.
Ange said: “A lot of the success I’ve had has been stuff that’s pretty significant. It’s been at clubs where Yokohama hadn’t won a Championship for 14 years, Australia had never won a continental championship, Brisbane had never won one, South Melbourne – my first job – hadn’t won in seven years.”

“Celtic had been one year but trust me that’s a long time in Scotland. They had to wrestle back the dominance they had for so long, so it’s the significance of them all because you know what it does to the club and to the people.”
Let’s hope Ange can win the Europa League next Wednesday and well and truly silence the English media’s outrageous onslaught of him.
