Ange Postecoglou raves about Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Wilson Odobert | OneFootball

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou lavished praise on midfielder Wilson Odobert after their 1-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League on Wednesday night.

Spurs paid around £25 million to sign the 20-year-old midfielder from Burnley during the summer transfer window. His first season at the north London club hasn’t gone according to the plans, as he missed a lot of action through injuries.

The versatile attacking midfielder has made only three starts in the Premier League and a further three appearances have come from the bench.

Postecoglou has hailed him as an “exciting” player, and he is confident that Odobert will play a big role towards the end of the season.

He started the game against Man City and played until the 67th minute. Postecoglou said that he was impressed with the youngster’s performance, and while he looked rusty, the quality was evident.

The Spurs boss added that Odobert was a “big catalyst” at the start of the second half.

Postecoglou said after the game: “I thought he was great. It was important tonight that him, Destiny and Brennan got some minutes. Again, it’s one thing to get guys back from injury but we have got to get them up to speed as quick as we possibly can.

“You could see Wilson hasn’t played for a while but you could also see the quality that he has. I think he grew into the game in the second half.

“I thought he was a big catalyst at the beginning of the second half when he was running at the opposition. He is an exciting player and if we can manage him through this period and get him to a really decent level of fitness, I’m sure he will help us finish the season strong.”

Spurs are 13th in the Premier League table but Postecoglou will be looking to end the season on a high.

They have suffered terrible luck with injuries. But with key players gradually coming back, Spurs are expected to get better in the closing stages of the season.

Odobert is a fantastic talent, and Tottenham have high hopes for him. He must stay injury-free for the rest of the season, and in that way, the youngster can make a positive contribution to the side.
