Ange Postecoglou said after Tottenham’s 2-1 loss to Ipswich before the international break that he may have to fix his approach, and it seems he is open to some change.

Asked about those comments after the Ipswich loss, he said: “I’m always reflecting. I don’t think I would have lasted this long, and I know people try to paint me as one-dimensional, there are certain beliefs that I have that I won’t waver on, but within that process, there’s always things, because there’s different challenges wherever you go.”

Ange has received criticism for his stubbornness in certain parts of his philosophy, for example the defensive high-line, and has said he won’t change certain things. But perhaps he will alter specific areas of his mindset.

Spurs play City on Saturday, and asked if he hoped Pep Guardiola would call it a day, Ange said: “I look at it the other way. I go ‘imagine if you knock him off’. That’d be something. I’m at the stage of my life where I’d rather have the chance of knocking him off than missing that opportunity. When greatness is around, you want to be around it. And hopefully it challenges you to be like that as well.”

Spurs did beat City the last time the two faced off, in the EFL Cup, with Tottenham running out 2-1 winners. And Ange will be hoping his side can recreate that result.

The big controversy during the International break was surrounding David Coote, to which Ange said: “I’m not across the detail of it. But firstly, a bit like Rodrigo (Bentancur), he’s obviously made some poor decisions, he’s made a big mistake. He’s a human being so you worry about his welfare so hopefully I’m sure he’s getting good support around him.”
