Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Fraser Forster made a litany of errors, but Spurs did enough to secure their passage to the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Spurs earned a 4-3 win against Premier League rivals Manchester United on Thursday in the EFL Cup and joined Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United in the last four.
Dominik Solanke scored twice, while Dejan Kulusevki and Son Heung-Min also found the net for the home side.
Spurs went 3-0 up until the 54th minute, but individual errors, especially from the goalkeeper, crept into their game, and they ended up conceding three goals.
Ange Postecoglou admitted after the game that while Forster was “outstanding” for Spurs, he probably lacked a bit of belief in the second half.
The Spurs boss said: “He is disappointed because he was outstanding for us. Even before then in the first half I thought he was really good with his feet, he found some great solutions.
“The first one probably affected his confidence a little bit and he lost a bit of belief and the second one compounded it. But he is a big boy mate and he is another one who has stood up for us big time in this period.”
Forster, deputising in recent weeks for the injured Guglielmo Vicario, made a couple of costly errors and allowed United to come back into the match.
The 36-year-old goalkeeper made one fantastic full-length save from Joshua Zirkee’s header. But momemts later, he fluffed a pass to Radu Dragusin, and Bruno Fernandes intercepted it and passed to Zirkzee, who finished it with ease.
In the 70th minute, Forster then made another big error. This time, he waited far too long to pass the ball and Amad sensed the opportunity to roll the ball into the empty net.
The tall goalkeeper is capable of making fine saves, but he is not comfortable with the ball on his feet.
Michael Brown, former Spurs defender, said on BBC Radio 5 Live that Postecoglou looked down to the ground in shock and disbelief after Forster’s mistake for the second goal.
Spurs will face Liverpool in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup, and Forster cannot afford to make such silly mistakes against the Reds.
