Arsenal and Liverpool are reportedly leading Real Madrid in the race to sign Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old is in huge demand following a highly impressive debut Premier League campaign with the Cherries, making 25 top-flight starts since joining from Juventus last year.
Huijsen has won plaudits for his defensive capabilities and ability to get on the end of chances in the opposition box. He’s scored three goals and provided one assist this season.
It seems inevitable that the Spain international will move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs this summer, with no shortage of suitors for his signature.
Indeed, Arsenal and Liverpool are in ‘pole position’ to sign Huijsen, with a decision on his future ‘expected soon’, according to Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg.
There is a £50 million (€58m) release clause included in the defender’s contract, which can be paid in three installments by a buying club.
Real Madrid ‘remain keen’ on getting Huijsen as they need to bring in defensive reinforcements ahead of next season. Fabrizio Romano claims the Spanish club will try to sign a centre-back for incoming manager Xabi Alonso.
Huijsen has previously stated that it is “an honour” to be linked with the 15-time Champions League winners and revealed that Sergio Ramos is his “idol”.
Bayern Munich, however, appear to be out of the race, as they will need to sell players to fund a potential move for Huijsen. Instead, they are solely focused on Bayer Leverkusen star Jonathan Tah, who is available on a free transfer this summer.
