Arsenal will earn £100 million in prize money and bonuses if they beat Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in April, according to The Times.

The Gunners last reached the semi-finals in 2009 and will be desperate to go one better and make their first final since 2006.

UEFA’s new distribution model means Arsenal will pocket £100m if they dump Madrid out of the competition next month, which would boost their coffers ahead of the summer transfer window.

The revenue distribution system for clubs participating in the competition has been changed this season, ensuring there are more financial rewards for performance rather than for historical success.

Arsenal have made around £87m after progressing through the league phase and round of 16, and going all the way and winning it would fetch them around £135m.

The club could use a massive financial boost as they need to bolster their squad ahead of next season.

Arsenal need to strengthen their squad depth in attack after key injuries derailed their domestic campaign. Their Champions League earnings will come in handy in the transfer window.

Bukayo Saka is expected to be available to face defending champions Madrid in a huge boost for the Gunners, having been out of action since last December.

Arsenal have been wondering for a while if they would have to sell an established star to help fund purchases in the transfer market.

However, progress in Europe could help prevent that, and Mikel Arteta will be hoping his team can get the job done next month.
