Arsenal have concrete interest in recruiting the services of Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich and have held talks with his camp, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Gunners are preparing for life without Italian midfielder Jorginho at the end of the season, and the eight-time Bundesliga winner has emerged as a summer transfer target.

Kimmich is out of a deal at Bayern at the end of the campaign, and Arsenal want to sign him for free, but they will face plenty of competition for his services, while he could still sign a contract extension with the Germans.

The 30-year-old would be perfect for the North London club, and the opportunity to play outside Germany could appeal to him.

Kimmich has won every domestic trophy several times and also has a Champions League medal to his name, and Arsenal could do with such a player within their ranks.

He can also play at right-back and centre-back, and manager Mikel Arteta would have use for his versatility in his team, but convincing the Bayern star to choose the Gunners ahead of other suitors or remaining at the Allianz Arena club could prove tricky.

Kimmich has ten assists and a goal in 36 games to his name so far this term, with a total of 114 assists and 43 goals in 426 appearances for the Bundesliga leaders.

His huge experience and quality would come in handy at a club like Arsenal, and landing him on a free would be massive for them.

Some of his strengths include passing, delivering perfect set-pieces and crosses and holding on to the ball, and his influence in the dressing room and on the pitch could spur the Gunners to start winning trophies regularly.

Arsenal have found themselves 13 points behind Liverpool in the title race and will need to strengthen their squad this summer if they are to become credible title challengers going forward, and a player like Kimmich will be perfect for the team.
