Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard also impress in crucial north London derby win, but Raheem Sterling doesn’t take his chance

Arsenal closed the gap on Premier League leaders Liverpool to four points by beating Tottenham 2-1 in the north London derby.

Spurs took the lead after 25 minutes on Wednesday night when Heung-min Son’s deflected strike against the run of play found its way past David Raya.

The Gunners hit back, though, through an own goal from Dominic Solanke, forced by Gabriel, and Leandro Trossard’s strike before half-time.

The win means Arsenal are now four points off league leaders Liverpool, but Arne Slot’s side still have a game in hand.

Standard Sport’s Simon Collings was at the Emirates Stadium to rate the Arsenal performances.

David Raya 6

Made a good save from Dejan Kulusevski, before he was beaten by a deflected strike. Dealt well with crosses into the box.

Jurrien Timber 7

Overlapped and got forward when he could, even late on in the game. A steady performance from one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers.

William Saliba 7

Unlucky for Spurs’ goal as the ball deflected off him past Raya. Other than that, a solid performance and he kept Spurs’ attack quiet.

Gabriel 8 | Star player

Produced a heroic tackle to stop Dominic Solanke scoring when it was 0-0. Thought he had scored from Declan Rice’s corner but it went down as an own goal. A rock at the back.

Myles Lewis-Skelly 8

The first 18-year-old to start a north London derby for Arsenal since Cesc Fabregas in 2005. Looked at home on the big stage, such a talent.

Martin Odegaard 7

Full of energy and set the tempo for Arsenal, both on and off the ball. Created the second goal, but somehow missed a glorious chance to make it 3-1 late on.

Thomas Partey 6

Won the ball to start the move for Arsenal’s second goal and generally broke up play, but lost possession in some dangerous areas.

Declan Rice 7

Set-piece delivery was excellent and Arsenal scored from his corner. Whole performance was full of running and he was everywhere.

Raheem Sterling 5

Started brightly but faded. Did not take his opportunity on what felt like a big night for him in the absence of Bukayo Saka.

Kai Havertz 6

Missed a good chance early in the second half when he headed wide from a corner. Looks short on confidence right now.

Leandro Trossard 7

Put Arsenal ahead just before half-time, although it wasn’t great goalkeeping from Antonin Kinsky. Better than he has been recently.

Subs

Gabriel Martinelli (Sterling 61’) 6

Enjoyed some of the space in an open second half with a few mazy runs forward.

Kieran Tierney (Trossard 76’) N/A

Mikel Merino (Rice 87’) N/A

Oleksandr Zinchenko (Lewis-Skelly 87’) N/A
