The 25-year-old has struggled for consistent game time this season under Dortmund’s new manager, Nuri Sahin, starting just six Bundesliga matches and scoring three goals.

This marks a significant drop from his impressive 2023/24 campaign, during which he registered 20 goal involvements in 38 appearances and played a crucial role in Dortmund’s run to the Champions League final.

With 18 months remaining on his contract, Dortmund have opted to part ways with the former PSV Eindhoven star at a cut-price fee.

Unai Emery has made the addition of a versatile forward a priority in this transfer window, and Malen’s ability to play across the front three aligns perfectly with Villa’s needs.

Known for his speed, technical skill and eye for goal, the Dutch international is expected to bring a fresh dynamic to Villa’s attack.

The forward’s signing could provide a significant boost as the team aims to push further up the Premier League table in the second half of the season.

Malen’s arrival will mark Villa’s first signing of the January window, showcasing the club’s intent to back Emery in strengthening the squad.

The transfer is now in its final stages, with a medical likely to take place within the next few days.

Once completed, Malen will join on a long-term deal, signalling Villa’s confidence in his potential to deliver both immediately and in the years to come.

Malen’s departure allows Dortmund to reshape their squad, potentially clearing the path for moves such as their reported interest in Chelsea defender Renato Veiga.

Villa have secured a player with proven quality and a point to prove after an inconsistent spell in Germany. This transfer could prove pivotal in their ambitions to compete for European places this season.
