Over 2.5 Aston Villa goals (5/2 with Betfred)

Aston Villa have scored at least three goals in six of their last eight matches across all competitions, including three of their last four. Villa are chasing down the group above them in the hunt for a top five finish, and Champions League qualification, and need the points as they currently sit three points behind their rivals. Aston Villa also have a inferior goal difference to the teams above them and, with things so tight, they could need to close that gap to secure Champions League football next season.

Ollie Watkins anytime goalscorer (29/20 with BetMGM)

Ollie Watkins has scored four goals in his last three appearances against Fulham, taking his career tally against the Cottagers to six, only scoring more against Brighton (7). The England striker hasn’t quite hit the heights of last season but he’s still be in fine form this campaign, netting 17 goals in 53 appearances in all competitions. With his great record against Fulham, and with two goals in his last five appearances, his price of 29/20 looks a good one.

How both teams go into Aston Villa vs Fulham

Despite exiting the Champions League, Aston Villa are in a great place, winning three of their last four games across all competitions and 11 of their last 14. That included five straight victories in the Premier League to climb to seventh, just three points behind sixth placed Nottingham Forest and five points behind third placed Newcastle, with the race for Champions League football agonisingly close.

Villa were dealt a blow last weekend when they were dumped out of the FA Cup at the semi-final stage with a 3-0 loss to Crystal Palace but they will look to bounce back and keep the heat on the sides just above them. A win this weekend could draw them level on points with Forest and Chelsea ahead of what looks to be a tough run in for Unai Emery’s side.

As for Fulham, they’ve dropped off recently, losing three of their last five matches across all competitions, including three in the Premier League — their last two ending in defeat against Bournemouth and Chelsea. The only high points in that run was a shock 3-2 win over champions-elect Liverpool and a 2-1 win over already relegated Southampton.

The Cottagers currently sit in eighth position and whilst direct European qualification looks like a long shot they will be hoping things go their way and they can return to continental football once again. Fulham look to have a relatively decent run in, playing teams with nothing to play for but closing the gap on Villa this weekend will be the ultimate goal as they target a place in the Conference League next term.

Aston Villa team news

At the time of writing, Unai Emery is completely free of injury and suspension concerns, although there’s a lot of football to be played by Villa before this match.

Fulham team news

Harry Wilson should be well back in action before this match, although Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson remains touch-and-go.

Aston Villa vs Fulham head-to-head

Aston Villa have won their last four matches against Fulham, while they haven’t lost at home against the Cottagers since April 2014, when Paul Lambert and Felix Magath were in the respective dugouts.
