This past summer, Paris Saint-Germain considered several options to boost their attack for the 2024-25 season, with Aston Villa’s Jhon Durán being one of their targets.

In October, Eduardo Burgos from Diario AS revealed that both PSG and Bayern Munich made offers for Durán during the summer transfer window, but Aston Villa rejected them. Manager Unai Emery views the young forward as a future star.

PSG and Bayern Munich aren’t the only clubs interested, however. A recent report from Fichajes reports that Arsenal and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the Colombian forward ahead of the 2025 transfer windows.

Amid the transfer rumors, former Aston Villa player Alan McInally tips Durán to remain with the Lions, especially after signing a contract extension that keeps him until 2030.

“He’s been fantastic Jhon Durán, he really has,” McInally said (h/t The Mirror). “He’s still really young. It’s hard to suppress that real massive energy that he has and put it into areas where he’s going to cause a problem, but he certainly knows where the goal is, there’s no question about that!

“I don’t mind [him] being direct or being selfish as anything, I’m okay with that, it’s just that you have to learn when to be selfish and learn when to be a team player, and under Unai Emery he will.

“It’ll be interesting to see in January if there’s the same interest in Jhon as there was in the summer. Hopefully, with him signing a new contract, that’s going to put that to bed.

“But if he’s not a starter and every time he comes on he plays such a huge part for Aston Villa, there’ll [always] be clubs who are interested in goal scorers, good strikers, and someone can change a game for them. You can talk about any team in the Premier League [and] they’d love to have him. The good thing is he’s at Villa.”

If Durán maintains his form into the second half of the season, the rumors surrounding him are likely to persist. Recently, Fichajes reported that PSG sees Durán as a long-term investment to strengthen their attack. However, Aston Villa hesitate to part with one of their key players.

The English club recognizes the young star’s potential and isn’t inclined to accept a simple swap for Randal Kolo Muani. Negotiations may involve PSG making an additional payment, which could give them an advantage, but no final deal has been reached yet.

Additionally, Italian newspaper Il Mattino claimed that Napoli is looking for a partner for Romelu Lukaku and sees Durán as a strong option.

Transfermarkt puts the player’s transfer value at €40 million, which was updated in December. Nonetheless, if the striker continues to score goals at this impressive rate, the value and asking price will continue to increase.
