January signing from Arsenal was stretchered off in concerning scenes on his full Premier League debut at Leicester
Ruben Amorim says Manchester United will assess the serious-looking injury suffered by Ayden Heaven against Leicester.
The teenage defender, a January signing from Arsenal, made his full Premier League debut in Sunday night’s fixture at the King Power Stadium, impressing in the first half with some important blocks.
However, Heaven’s night was brought to a premature end shortly after the interval when he hurt himself when trying to stop Leicester forward Patson Daka from reaching a Jamie Vardy cross.
The 18-year-old immediately signalled to the bench in significant pain and received lengthy treatment before being stretchered off and replaced by fellow youngster Toby Collyer.
It looked like a potentially serious injury for Heaven, who also made substitute appearances against Fulham in the FA Cup and against former club Arsenal before being handed his first United start in Thursday night’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad in the Europa League last 16.
It was later reported by journalists Andy Mitten and Tyrone Marshall that the centre-back had been seen leaving the King Power Stadium walking unaided but with his foot placed in a protective boot.
“We will see next week," United boss Amorim said of Heaven’s injury after a 3-0 win over Ruud van Nistelrooy’s relegation-threatened Leicester side that saw both Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho end their long goal droughts to go along with a late effort from captain Bruno Fernandes.
"It’s hard to understand because even when he’s on the ground, he can’t speak, he doesn’t know how to explain what he’s feeling because he’s so young. It’s hard to understand what he’s feeling.”
Heaven joins a long list of United players currently out injured, with the club particularly hard-hit in defence with Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw all already sidelined.
Amorim is also still without the likes of Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Altay Bayindir and Jonny Evans, while Patrick Dorgu served the final game of his three-match domestic suspension against Leicester. Left-back Harry Amass made his senior debut for the club off the bench on his 18th birthday.
However, there has been some good news on the injury front for United this week, with Mason Mount returning to training and making the matchday squad for the first time since December after a hamstring injury that forced him to miss 20 games in a row across all competitions.
The former Chelsea midfielder was an unused substitute against Leicester but will be hoping to feature after the international break when United travel to face high-flying Nottingham Forest in the Premier League before a Manchester derby at home to City and their Europa League quarter-final tie against Lyon.
