Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. was the one who was carrying the team’s forward line largely in the first half of the season and the comeback win over Borussia Dortmund is arguably where he peaked this term.
His start to 2025, however, has not been as bright as he was sent off in the team’s first league game against Valencia and then dropped a silent game in the El Clasico defeat.
Carlo Ancelotti will hope the player returns to his best in the coming days for his form has a direct effect on Real Madrid’s on-field performance. For Vinicius, however, it has never been a question of quality but focus.
Speaking to the media in a recent interview, Barcelona and Brazil legend Rivaldo gave his two cents on Vinicius Jr.’s form this season and gave his advice on areas where he must improve.
He began by outlining that being snubbed of the Ballon d’Or may have affected the player more than is visible to the eye and how regular tussles on the field did not serve him well.
“What happened with the Ballon d’Or could have affected him emotionally,” said Rivaldo.
“Sometimes we see him get involved in situations that lead him to receive yellow cards or even to be expelled, which generates controversies that affect his performance,” he added.

Providing guidance to the Real Madrid winger on how to proceed forward as a mature professional, he reiterated the importance of focusing on the game and not the noise around it.
“He must concentrate on the game, avoid mistakes that may cost him expulsion, play calmly and not let external factors influence him.”
“He just needs to be more aware of his current situation. Being one of the best, even without having won the Ballon d’Or, he will be a target for the rivals who will try to provoke him,” he added.
He then spoke on how being targeted by opposition was a mark of the player’s greatness and how he must deal with it with utmost patience.
“You shouldn’t fall into those traps. Answering only hurts him and Real Madrid. Patience is essential.”
