Barcelona’s rising star in midfield Marc Casado made his debut for Spain last night, as La Roja edged past Denmark 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League.

Casado appeared as a 70th-minute substitute for Martin Zubimendi and helped Spain secure three points, despite a scary last five minutes.

Casado on making his debut for Spain

Speaking to the press after the match, Casado talked about his debut and thanked everyone who supported him in his journey.

“I feel very satisfied. At such moments, you remember the people who accompanied you along the way, the family and friends who helped me so much,” he said (h/t SPORT).

Talking about the game itself, Casado talked about how his debut coincided with Spain sealing the top spot in the UEFA Nations League group

“I am very happy, everything went well, the win, the first place qualification and above all the debut. Everything was perfect,” he said.

Casado, though, revealed that he did not expect to appear against Denmark until he saw Zubimendi suffering from discomfort.

“I wasn’t expecting to go in because my other teammates were about to go in but then I saw that Zubimendi was feeling a bit uncomfortable,” he said.

And finally, on the nervy end to the game, the midfielder added, “It was a tough game, we were 2-0 up but in the end, it got a bit complicated but we knew how to suffer.”

With top spot sealed, it will be interesting to see whether or not Casado makes his maiden start for Spain as they take on Switzerland on Monday.

Either way – with a soaring valuation – it appears the young Barcelona midfielder is determined to become a regular fixture in the Spanish national team, in the years to come.
