As confirmed earlier today, Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado has suffered from a torn ligament in his right knee during Sunday’s La Liga game against Atletico Madrid.

As a result, the 21-year-old La Masia gem is set to be out for at least two months, with his season now likely to be over.

Casado played injured for 40 minutes

Now, according to journalist Toni Juanmarti, Casado played while being injured for as long as 40 minutes on Sunday night before being substituted by the manager.

The 21-year-old was on the receiving end of some rough challenges from Atletico stars in the first half. One of those from Antoine Griezmann in the 25th minute which caused the injury to the youngster.

Despite that, Casado carried on playing for 40 minutes before eventually being taken off in the 67th minute for Eric Garcia.

Now, the La Masia graduate is expected to be out for a period of two months or even more, which comes as a major concern for Barcelona.

While it is true that Casado’s minutes had taken a slight hit in recent weeks due to Frenkie de Jong’s growing importance, he remains the only natural defensive midfielder in the first-team squad.

With the season entering the business end and the cramped fixture schedule, the young midfielder’s absence could be a blow.

Like he did against Atletico, Eric Garcia could fill in for Casado while Hansi Flick can also turn to Gavi as an alternative.
