The brass at La Liga giants Barcelona have again pushed back negotiations with the entourage of Frenkie de Jong, over the player’s contract renewal.
That’s according to Marca, who have on Wednesday provided an insight into the latest developments behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.
The name of Dutch international De Jong has of course proven a prominent one in the headlines in Barcelona over recent weeks.
This comes with the former Ajax man having re-established himself as a key member of Hansi Flick’s squad.
Now back fully fit and firing, De Jong appears to have usurped youngster Marc Casadó in the Blaugrana’s midfield pecking order.
As much has given rise to fresh chatter surrounding the future of the 27-year-old, who, until recently, had been widely expected to be on the move in the summer.
This comes ahead of the expiration of his current contract terms in 2026.
After De Jong’s agent, Ali Dursun, was spotted in the city of Barcelona last week, the assumption, in turn, was that contract talks were imminently set to be kicked into gear.
This, however, has not proven to be the case.
As per a report from Marca:
‘The two parties have decided that it is not yet time to talk and that the conversations will resume at the end of the season or when everything has been decided at a sporting level.’
