Hansi Flick was once again without several of his important players as he saw his Barcelona team suffer another defeat in La Liga, this time to Las Palmas at their own home ground.
The German had two important players unavailable in midfield, as Marc Casado was suspended for this game, while Dani Olmo also did not play and Flick hinted at a possible physical problem for him after the game.
In Casado’s place, Flick played Gavi, while replacing Olmo with Fermin Lopez as the attacking midfielder. Although Fermin Lopez was subbed out in the second half as the team looked for a victory, he was still one of the players who talked to the media after the game.
As Mundo Deportivo has reported, the midfielder was naturally not very pleased with his team’s performance, and asked for self-criticism: “I think we didn’t play a good game. We weren’t decisive in key moments. We need to correct our mistakes, engage in self-criticism, and move forward.”
“We’ll discuss it internally, but we need to keep training, analyze recent matches, engage in self-criticism, correct mistakes, and focus on the next game.”
One of the more controversial moments from this game was the possible penalty for a foul on Pau Cubarsi, but Fermin did not want to give any excuses for the team’s bad performance:
“I didn’t see it, but I think he was stepped on. I don’t know why a penalty wasn’t called. In the end, we didn’t play well. There are no excuses; we need to engage in self-criticism and move forward.”
The Barcelona midfielder was sure that this defeat will not cause the team to lose confidence: “No, never. We all believe in ourselves and in the team. I think we’ll get back to doing what we were doing before.”
“We’re going to keep pushing forward and stay positive. We weren’t precise or decisive today. We had many scoring chances, but in the end, you have to accept it, think positively, and keep moving on.”
Hopefully, this will be the case, and this confidence will be keenly needed as Barcelona are set to face some difficult opponents in their upcoming matches, including Mallorca, Real Betis, and Borussia Dortmund.
