A star member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona was showered in deserved praise by the club’s coaching staff on the back of their most recent outing.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Iñigo Martínez as the player in question.
Stopper Iñigo, for his part, was in from the off once more this past weekend, as Barcelona made the trip to Madrid for a La Liga meeting with Leganés.
And en route to an eventual 1-0 Blaugrana triumph, the former Athletic Club man proved himself an absolutely pivotal figure.
Iñigo produced a series of crucial challenges and interceptions over the course of the 90 minutes at the Estadio Municipal Butarque.
None proved more important than a brilliant late intervention to prevent what looked a certain Leganés equaliser, the 33-year-old having gone to ground to get his right foot to the ball in stellar fashion.
And as alluded to above, such efforts on Iñigo’s part did not go at all unappreciated on the part of those on the touchline.
This comes amid confirmation on the part of MD that:
‘Immediately after the match, the entire staff went to him to congratulate him. Hansi Flick, the first.’
