In fact, at just 22 years old, Pedri is in exceptional physical condition, and his performances continue to speak for themselves.

A true midfield general

Positioned further back in the build-up play, Pedri has become central to Barcelona’s offensive strategies. His presence is felt throughout the field, and he is deeply involved in creating opportunities in the middle and final thirds of the pitch.

His value to Hansi Flick’s tactics is undeniable, with the player now an irreplaceable figure in the squad. Today, he is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world.

Against Rayo Vallecano, it was Pedri who repeatedly sparked moments of brilliance, especially when his teammates struggled.

The opponent put up a strong fight, testing Barcelona’s resolve, but while other players like Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal had less impactful performances, Pedri remained sharp and influential throughout.

His vision and ability to make things happen were evident, whether he was linking up play or helping out defensively.

A tireless worker

Pedri worked tirelessly for the full 96 minutes, running back to help in defence, breaking up attacks, and finding space where there seemed to be none.

One of his standout moments was a brilliant assist to Raphinha, though the Brazilian couldn’t finish the opportunity. Even when faced with stiff opposition from a determined Vallecano side, Pedri maintained his composure and class.

During the game, he played two key passes, the joint-most by any Barcelona player and finished the game with almost 90% passing accuracy. Offensively, he completed two dribbles and had Raphinha finished his chances, Pedri would have gotten an assist too.

With 2,793 minutes already under his belt this season, Pedri has played more than he did throughout the entirety of last season.

While his statistics, with four goals and six assists, might not immediately jump out, it is his influence on the pitch and his ability to control the game that truly stands out.
