Newcastle United are looking to follow up their midweek Carabao Cup success by beating League One promotion favourites, and Tom Brady-backed, Birmingham City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday.

The Magpies secured a 2-0 win over Arsenal on Wednesday night that booked their place in the Carabao Cup final for the second time in three seasons. They are now tantalisingly close to a first major trophy since 1955.

Eddie Howe's side will be strong favourites for their fourth round tie at St Andrew's but they will have to end Birmingham's impressive 18-game unbeaten run if they are to progress. The Blues are sitting pretty atop League One as they seek a return to the Championship - the competition in which they most recently faced Newcastle in 2017.

Here is 90min's guide to the clash.

Chris Davies is likely to field a similar lineup to the one that toppled Stevenage in League One on Tuesday evening, with Newcastle having to keep close tabs on former Fulham man Jay Stansfield up front. The 22-year-old has 17 goals in all competitions this term.

Grant Hanley could face his former employers, while ex-Liverpool defender Ben Davies could line up alongside him in the backline. Former Manchester United academy product Ethan Laird will likely feature in some capacity, too.

Lee Buchanan is out for the remainder of the season but Paik Seung-ho and Willum Willumsson could both return for the first time since the FA Cup third round - the latter having been in impressive form this season.

Joelinton is sidelined / Ryan Pierse/GettyImages

In terms of injuries, Newcastle are without Joelinton, Harvey Barnes and Jamaal Lascelles, while Sven Botman is also sidelined. The Dutch defender has avoided a serious injury after picking up a knock midweek but won't be available for the FA Cup.

In better news, Emil Krafth made his first appearance since October during Wednesday's win and Callum Wilson also turned out for the first time since December.

Howe may make changes to his starting lineup following Newcastle's midweek Carabao Cup excursion, with fringe players like Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock and William Osula potentially earning starts.

Newcastle predicted lineup vs Birmingham (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Schar, Burn, Targett; Miley, Longstaff, Willock; Murphy, Wilson, Osula.

Birmingham may be in dazzling form but they are yet to be tested by a side of Newcastle's quality this season. The Blues are not particularly prolific scorers either, often shading affairs by the odd goal in League One.

Even an much-changed Newcastle XI should have the ability to secure victory at St Andrew's, especially if stars like Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon are available from the bench. They will face resistance in the West Midlands but they should have the firepower to overcome the Blues.
