Bologna mayor Matteo Lepore has doubled down on his decision to block the game between Bologna and AC Milan at the end of October last year. In an interview today, he called the Rossoneri and other top Italian clubs ‘spoiled’.

It was at the end of October last year that the Bologna mayor signed an ordinance to close the Renato Dall’Ara stadium due to flooding. In the end, the weather caused very few problems and other events in the city, including a big car expo, went ahead as planned.

Doubling down on his stance on the matter, the Bologna mayor called Milan and the big Italian clubs ‘spoiled’ in an interview with AlaNews. He also said that the Rossoneri’s claim for damages was very surprising to him.

“I was certainly very struck by the fact that such a renowned club as Milan didn’t understand the great moment of difficulty that our city experienced with the flood, given that they also asked us for damages for the postponement.

“As mayor, I acted in conscience and also for what are my prerogatives. I find that suing a mayor with a request for damages because he did his duty is something that makes you think about how the great and powerful of Italian football are too spoiled in this country,” Lepore stated.

Milan spoke up against the decision at the time and proposed playing the game on neutral ground, but Serie A was unable to get Bologna (the club) to budge. It was a costly rescheduling in the end, even if there are no guarantees that the Rossoneri would have won in October.
