West Ham United are in the market for a new striker and have named several potential targets in their extensive shortlist.
The Hammers are keen to bolster their frontline after struggling in the final third all season, netting just 24 times in 20 Premier League games.
With one of the worst attacking records in the league, it’s unsurprising that the Hammers are languishing dangerously close to the relegation zone.
Julen Lopetegui’s side sit 14th in the table and are just seven points above the drop zone. West Ham’s atrocious performances this season has put Lopetegui on the cusp of losing his job.
The club were previously willing to stick with him until the end of the season but have shifted their stance to avoid getting drawn into a relegation scuffle.
While they’re trying to sort out their managerial dilemma, West Ham are also making moves in the transfer market.
Injuries to stalwart Michail Antonio and talisman Jarrod Bowen has forced the club to explore striking options.
Brighton & Hove Albion’s Evan Ferguson is on their radar, but the Irish Times reports that Bournemouth are also keen on the striker.
Brighton have not exactly put Ferguson on the market. In fact, multiple reports claim the Seagulls have no intention of letting him leave the club this month.
However, there’s a general feeling that they’ll be open to a loan move to help the Republic of Ireland international rediscover his goalscoring touch.
Since returning from a lengthy lay-off, Ferguson has been a shadow of himself.
Once regarded as a generation talent and one of the best young strikers in the division, his development has stalled in recent months.
A change of scenery might do him a world of good, and West Ham need to get there first as more Premier League clubs register interest.
Lopetegui isn’t a fan of Niclas Fullkrug. Even if he leaves, the German striker could be tempted by a mid-season exit just months after joining the club.
Despite his struggles, Ferguson is still tipped to achieve great things.
There’s no telling what he can achieve with regular first-team football under his belt, so a loan move for the talented youngster is a no-brainer for West Ham.
