Breaking down the April 2025 schedule for Gotham FC

Similar to 2024, NJ/NY Gotham FC has had a slow start to the season. The Bats have two draws and one loss after three matches, subsequently putting them in 12th place. However, it will likely only take a win or two to move the team into a playoff spot.
Funny enough, their best game played arguably came in the loss to the Orlando Pride. Gotham FC was not at their best, but compared to the other matches, their play was stronger. Plus, the goals given up came from an own goal and a penalty kick. Nevertheless, the team is still without a win, and that can be blamed on the inability to capitalize on goals and the developing chemistry of the club.
The problem though for Gotham is that they have a difficult schedule once the international break concludes. So, with four games this month, here is a look at the April schedule.
Gotham FC only has one home game in April, and that will be against the North Carolina Courage. The team has the same record as the NJ/NY side, struggling to win in their first three matches. As such, fans can expect this to be a battle of two hungry teams. It is vital that the home side's defense must be at the top of their game, and the attacking players must capitalize on their shots. With three straight road games ahead of them, this is a must-win.
The rest of the month will be all away matches. Gotham FC will first travel to California to take on Angel City FC. The home team has had a decent start to the season, 1-0-2, and has not lost. Alyssa Thompson has been critical to the team's attack and has two of the four goals. The Bats must find a way to stop her and should aim to focus more on defense with counterattacks. If Juan Carlos Amorós uses the right tactics, then a win on the road is highly possible.
Last season, Gotham swept Portland Thorns FC in all games, including the home playoff match. In fact, they have won five of the last six fixtures against Portland. Similar to the Bats and the Courage, the Thorns have only two points and have yet to win. Things can change by the time this meeting takes place, but early on in the season, Gotham and Portland appear to be level with their play. Hence, this will be an intriguing battle.
Afterward, the NJ/NY side will end this road trip with a game against the Washington Spirit. As one will recall, the D.C. team has recently been the Bats kryptonite. This will also be the first meeting since the Spirit knocked them out of the playoffs. As a result, Gotham FC will try to seek revenge. Hopefully, by this time, Rose Lavelle, Midge Purce, or both will be available to help the team. They are missed and would be extremely helpful in the revenge quest. Alas, this will be the hardest game of April, so the hope that a win is on the horizon against the Spirit is dim.
