Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has responded brilliantly to the excellent songbook from the Green Brigade. The Irishman probably recognised that he’d overreacted to the singing of Kieran Tierney’s name at the weekend and responded with humour when asked about it after the 2-0 win over Dundee United.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Brendan was asked about the songbook from the North Curve, which included classic songs praising former Celts.
The manager smiled and coolly disarmed any further questions on the comments about the supporters at the weekend by praising the fans.
“I thought the atmosphere was great. Whatever the temperature was, it was very, very cold but they turn out in their numbers.
“The Celtic fans are amazing and they give the support and the team the encouragement when it’s needed that helps us get the result.”
In his post match media conference, Rodgers was again asked about the songbook and whether it brought a smile to his face.
“The kit man, he was the only one that missed out, I think, tonight. But, yes, it’s all part of the dance here, isn’t it? My job is to put the best team on the pitch and win consistently, and everyone can smile.”
Jimmy Johnstone, Tommy Burns, Victor Wanyama, Jota, Charlie Mulgrew and, of course, Kieran Tierney had their songs wheeled out by the GB along with classics from Mikael Lustig and Scott Sinclair. If anything, the GB will hopefully be inspired to write some new songs for the current crop of Celtic players that are catchy as these gone by.
The Celtic fans certainly went home happy – if not cold – after the win as it puts the Scottish Champions 16 points clear at the top of the table with Rangers playing against Dundee at Dens Park tomorrow. There is no let up in the fixture schedule, however, as a trip to Dingwall beckons at the weekend.
