Riccardo Calafiori is ‘honoured’ to be part of the Serie A Team of the Year after an ‘extraordinary’ season at Bologna: ‘I’ll never forget you.’

Former Bologna star Calafiori was named to the Serie A Team of the Year at the Gran Galà del Calcio alongside his former teammate Joshua Zirkzee, who is now at Manchester United.

“It is an honour for me to receive this award and be placed in the Serie A 2023-24 Team of the Year,” Calafiori wrote on Instagram, posting a picture with the Award.

“I also wanted to thank all my teammates, the staff, the fans and the Bologna management. Together, we have built something extraordinary, and this recognition is also dedicated to them. I’ll never forget you.”

Calafiori provided five assists and scored two goals in 30 Serie A appearances with Bologna last season.

The Italian defender helped the Rossoblu finish fifth and qualify for the Champions League for the first time in over 60 years.

Calafiori joined Arsenal in a €50m transfer last summer and has already become a regular starter at Emirates Stadium, collecting 13 appearances and one goal.

Defending Serie A champions Inter dominated the Gran Galà del Calcio with seven players in the Team of the Year, including Marcus Thuram and last season’s top scorer Lautaro Martinez.
