Juventus were held to yet another disappointing stalemate, this time away to Club Brugge after a shocking Nico Gonzalez miss, as their Champions League campaign limps on.

The Bianconeri had their confidence boosted by a 2-0 Serie A victory over Milan on Saturday, but were only one point ahead of the Belgians in Europe going into Matchday 7. Arek Milik, Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal were long-term absentees, with Dusan Vlahovic, Kenan Yildiz, Francisco Conceicao and Weston McKennie only fit for the bench. Club Brugge had lost 3-1 to Milan when down to 10 men, but beat Aston Villa and Sporting CP, with Zaid Romero out following dental surgery.

Despite dominating possession, Juventus struggled to create any scoring opportunities, Douglas Luiz horribly scuffing the half-volley wide after twice controlling with his shoulder.

The first genuine scoring opportunity for either side was at the dawn of the second half, when Michele Di Gregorio got into a mess when playing out from the back and was fortunate to see Ferran Jutglà drill inches wide from the edge of the area.

Nico Gonzalez really should’ve scored on 51 minutes when Mbangula pulled across from the left and all he had to do was sweep home relatively undisturbed from 10 yards, but he stumbled on the ball and wasted that gift.

Teun Koopmeiners ballooned over the bar when intercepting a wayward Christos Tzolis pass, while Raphael Onyedika nodded off target from a corner.

Joel Ordonez required an acrobatic and risky clearance to stop Manuel Locatelli’s cross reaching Nico Gonzalez.

Francisco Conceicao came on and stood up a cross to the back post for Koopmeiners to nod wide from a promising position.

Substitute Nilsson also threatened for the hosts, his acrobatic volley skimming the crossbar on an Ordonez free kick.

Locatelli unleashed a long-range scorcher that Simon Mignolet palmed round the post on 85 minutes, but then Brugge countered on the resulting corner and Di Gregorio rushed out to deny Talbi.
