Chelsea are happy with Nicolas Jackson and will target a younger alternative to provide competition according to reports.

Jackson returned from two months out injured in the win against Tottenham on Thursday night, and Levi Colwill labelled the 23-year-old as a huge threat.

The Senegal international showed Chelsea exactly what they’d been missing and despite not scoring he was a constant threat to the Spurs defence.

Chelsea to target younger alternative to Jackson

The Blues failed to sign a striker last summer despite pursuing Victor Osimhen for the majority of the window, and they didn’t address the issue in January either.

A striker is a top priority for Chelsea as they seek an alternative to Jackson, with the Blues strongly linked with Liam Delap, whilst there’s also interest in Benjamin Sesko.

Fans would love a big name like Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres,  but according to Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas they could be disappointed.

“Chelsea have been pleased with the progress of Nicolas Jackson this season and now appear to be targeting a younger deputy for competition, rather than spending big on a new elite first-choice striker,” he said in his Sky Sports column.

Whilst Jackson has clearly developed and improved, you can’t help but feel Chelsea could do with a top level experienced striker to elevate them to the next level, and for the Senegalese to learn from.

Jackson has scored nine league goals this season, but adding another young inexperienced striker into the mix doesn’t feel like the right thing to do if the Blues are looking to push on to compete and win major trophies.

Striker is a difficult position to get right and it’s a tough market, but there are top ones out there, and fans will want the club to show ambition and get the best option they possibly can.
