Chelsea have made an enquiry into the availability of Manchester City midfielder Nico O’Reilly.

The West Londoners want to bring in a new midfielder and are eyeing O’Reilly, who has been on the fringes of the first team at the Etihad. O’Reilly has made five senior appearances for Manchester City this season and is highly-rated in City circles.

The teenager started the Community Shield win over Manchester United in August and scored his first senior goal during the 8-0 thrashing of Salford City in the FA Cup last month.

According to Fabrizio Romano, City ‘don’t want to lose future control of the player’ which makes a potential transfer complicated.

Chelsea, who have also made enquiries for 19-year-old Saint-Etienne midfielder Mathis Amougou, are continuing their policy of recruiting emerging talent.

The Blues have had success in recruiting ex-Manchester City academy graduates with Cole Palmer, Romeo Lavia, Jadon Sancho and Tosin Adarabioyo all part of Enzo Maresca’s squad.

Maresca knows O’Reilly well from his time with the Citizens as part of Pep Guardiola’s coaching staff.
