Chelsea have reportedly opened preliminary talks with representatives of Milan star Rafael Leao ahead of a possible summer transfer.

Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea are interested in Rafael Leao and have opened preliminary talks with people ‘close’ to the winger’s entourage, according to a report from Calciomercato.com.

Leao has had highs and lows at San Siro this term but still managed ten goals and seven assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. The Portugal international has a €175m clause included in his contract, which Chelsea seem unwilling to activate.

However, Milan and Chelsea have finalised several deals in the last few years, including Joao Felix’s loan move to San Siro in the January transfer window.

Leao’s compatriot will likely return to Stamford Bridge at the end of the season, and his agent, Jorge Mendes, will likely work with Chelsea and Milan, trying to find an agreement for Leao’s transfer.

Mendes is formally not representing Leao but remains close to the Milan star’s family, so he’s expected to take on a prominent role, especially if the Blues continue negotiations in the coming weeks.
