Enzo Fernandez has taken to Twitter to reveal that he played against Manchester United in Friday’s massive win “with one eye.”

The Argentine started for Enzo Maresca’s Blues as they battled to a crucial win in an ugly game at home which could prove crucial in their chase for the top 5. A goal from Marc Cucurella won it, but chances were few and far between for both teams, and it was a slog at times.

Fernandez struggles through win with handicap

“Last match at home with this group that will give it all until the end, we have two finals left,” the midfielder wrote on his Instagram account.

“Thank you to the fans for the support all the season. My first game playing with one eye.”

It’s clear his eye is affected – it’s not clear if this was from a bump in training, some sort of allergy. Either way, it looks mild enough to recover pretty fast.

Enzo’s poor defensive stats not representative of a good season

It wasn’t Enzo’s best game, and perhaps this factor explains why. He completed 31 of 42 passes, a rate of just 74%. That was just the 4th best for Chelsea, and the 6th most in total. He hit 0 key passes, 0 crosses, and completed just 1 accurate long pass from 4 attempted.

Defensively he had 0 interceptions, 1 tackle and 0 blocked shots, according to SofaScore.

Still, he’s had a great end to the season overall, and he has been instrumental in getting us this close to the Champions League with some important goals and assists. He’s forgiven a bad game, especially in the circumstances. We just need to hope his eye has healed up a little for next week’s massive decider against Nottingham Forest.
