Manchester City dropped points at Etihad Stadium yet again after managing a 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon in the Premier League.
Pep Guardiola’s side have now drawn three games and lost thrice at home this season. They are fifth in the league with 48 points, and their brittle defence is letting them down.
Erling Haaland became the first player to reach 100 Premier League goal involvements in less than 100 games when he netted a penalty in the 11th minute.
Pervis Estupinan restored parity shortly with a curling free-kick, although Stefan Ortega should have done a lot better.
Omar Marmoush then gave City the lead again with a cracking goal from 20 yards out. But Brighton levelled the tie after the break when Abdukodir Khusanov diverted Jack Hinshelwood’s effort into his own net.
Chris Sutton was heavily impressed by Marmoush’s effort and described his goal as a “lethal” strike.
Marmoush joined Man City in the January transfer window from Eintracht Frankfurt for an initial fee of £59m (€70m) plus a further £4.2m (€5m) in bonuses.
He was in superb form for the German side, scoring 15 goals in 17 matches in the Bundesliga before he switched to the Premier League.
The 26-year-old has scored four goals already in six league starts, and he looks like a terrific signing for City.
It was an entertaining game throughout, and both sides had opportunities to win. Nico Gonzalez struck the post, while Carlos Baleba missed a glorious opportunity for the visitors from 12 yards out.
City have now picked up four points from their last four games, and they need to get back to winning ways after the international break to secure a top-four finish.
