Federico Chiesa’s new adventure with Liverpool has not really taken off yet, and a report has suggested that AC Milan could look at bringing him back to Italy.

Calciomercato.com report that Italy boss Luciano Spalletti has not taken Chiesa into consideration since he left Serie A. Officially he is still injured, but the timeline for his return is still undefined, all while he struggles to settle into his new surroundings.

Liverpool invested €12m plus €3m in bonuses to sign him from Juventus in the summer and they gave him a contract expiring in June 2028. Chiesa does not want the 2026 World Cup to slip away, and that is why a move could be evaluated as early as the January window.

There are currently three teams who stand out as potential destinations. The first two are Milan and Roma, who could use Chiesa as an extra attacking weapon in the 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 systems that they use. The third is, Inter who have had the most contact since he left Juve and have long been admirers.

The Italian trio remain in the background for now and are waiting for an obvious turning point: that Chiesa returns to being fit and eligible to play. However, there is a strong economic condition too: it must be some kind of loan formula, with an option to buy.

The salary of €7.5m net per season would seem a lot more accessible if it were only an investment for five or six months, then if a permanent deal were to be negotiated his salary would obviously change.
