AC Milan CEO Giorgio Furlani is continuing the process to appoint a new sporting director as part of a larger restructuring of the management.

It is not yet clear what direction Milan will take next season, but one thing that is clear is that Furlani has wrestled the powers of command away from Zlatan Ibrahimovic and is now leading the casting for the new director.

According to today’s Corriere dello Sport (via MilanPress), there is no deadline by which the executive hopes to make an appointment and the process is proceeding slowly. In fact, the former hedge fund manager will be in Dubai in the next few days for meetings with the club’s commercial partners.

The name in pole position is Fabio Paratici at present, as per the paper. However, he must wait until July to begin the job because of the suspension imposed on him as part of the 2023 capital gains trial. Another name is that of Tony D’Amico of Atalanta, but outsiders are not excluded.

The one who will change role is Geoffrey Moncada: he will return to doing what he did previously, which was chief scout. Ibrahimovic will lose a bit of influence and will take on a more of a consultantcy and ambassadorial role, without having the final say on sporting matters.

It is exactly as we reported back on 6 March in our analysis of the power struggle taking place at Milan, in which we stated that the Swede would be the one to move aside.
