The Sky Blues are believed to be interested in a move for Holding, who has been left out of Oliver Glasner's plans.
Coventry City are exploring an ambitious move for Crystal Palace centre-back Rob Holding.
This is according to a report from The Sun, who have reported that Coventry boss Frank Lampard is keen to persuade the player to make a temporary step down to the Championship to win more game time.
Lampard has endured a fairly mixed start to life at the Coventry Building Society Arena - but his defence has endured some fairly low moments in recent times.
A 4-1 defeat away at Portsmouth was a humiliation for the club - and so was their collapse against Norwich City on Saturday afternoon.
Their defence had been resilient for much of the game at Carrow Road, but a brace from Amankwah Forson secured a 2-1 win for the Canaries, dealing the Sky Blues a massive blow in the process.
And it looks as though Lampard is now looking to strengthen his defence, to tighten things up at the back.
Holding, 29, arrived at Palace back in the summer of 2023 and looked to be a shrewd addition for the club, having done fairly well at Arsenal at times.
But the £4m arrival has made just one senior appearance for the club since he joined, with that display coming in the EFL Cup.
And it doesn't look as though he will win much game time anytime soon, with the player reportedly falling out with Eagles boss Oliver Glasner.
Currently training with the youth team, a January exit would surely be ideal for all parties, and Coventry are one team believed to be interested in luring him away from Selhurst Park.
Lampard is keen to secure a loan deal for the central defender, but will need to persuade the player to take a step down to the second tier, a level that Holding has played at before.
The Sky Blues already have some talented players at their disposal.
And whilst they are still developing, Lampard will surely be keen to give them as much game time as possible.
However, some experience in central defence could pay dividends, and Holding could act like a Kyle McFadzean-type figure at the back.
It may take him a little while to become accustomed to playing football on a regular basis, considering he hasn't featured much for Palace.
