It ended Crystal Palace 1 Newcastle 1.

A massive blow for Eddie Howe and his team.

Taking the lead with a very well worked goal, eventually scored by Palace’s Marc Guehi after Gordon squared it.

United had weathered the storm and the final 20-25 minutes had looked increasingly comfortable.

Only for a regulation cross from Guehi towards the back post, inexplicably seeing Joelinton fail to pick up Munoz who he should have been marking, the Palace player heading in a 94th minute equaliser.

Looking at the individuals in black and white, interesting to get an independent perspective on how this played out.

Whoscored ratings use data from every single Premier League match, over 200 raw statistics included in the automated calculation of a player’s rating, weighted according to their influence within the game.

Every event of importance is taken into account, with a positive or negative effect on ratings weighted in relation to its area on the pitch and its outcome.’

Now whoscored have published their independent player ratings for this Crystal Palace 1 Newcastle 1 match:

As you can see, seven players who started the match received a rating of 7.0 or more.

With four Palace players and three for Newcastle United.

Munoz (8.2) was a key figure for the home side, missing a near open goal in the first half, then denied by a brilliant Nick Pope save, before then finally getting that equaliser. Marc Guehi (7.0) rated one of Palace’s better players despite that own goal, which he couldn’t do much about.

Dan Burn (7.5) the highest rated Newcastle player, he was excellent against Mateta, barely gave him a kick.

His defensive partner Fabian Schar (7.0) also very good, including one brilliant tackle in the penalty area just as a Palace player prepared to shoot.

Sandro Tonali (7.0) had a very good game, certainly the pick of the United midfield and attack.

Not sure how the automated ratings gave Nick Pope (6.8) such a relatively low score, for me he was easily man of the match and  made some stunning saves.
