D.C. United cleaned out their 2024 goalkeeper room, moving on from the likes of; Alex Bono, Tyler Miller, Nathan Crockford, Luis Zamudio. Troy Lesesne is continuing to build out his roster heading into his 2nd off-season in charge of D.C. United. He starts that by going to the well that he came from, the USL well. D.C. United have signed USL veteran goalkeeper Jordan Farr ahead of the 2025 MLS season. Farr is signed from the Tampa Bay Rowdies in the USL Championship who I assume will get a transfer fee, although I have not seen one listed/reported.
The 30 year old Farr has been around USL since his debut into professional soccer in 2018. After graduating Corban University, Farr signed for the Indy Eleven who he played for until 2021. Following his spell with Indy, Farr went over to San Antonio from 2021 till 2023. Last season he played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies for his third USL club of his career.
Farr won the 2022 USL Cup, 2022 USL Regular Season title, a USL Goalkeeper of the Year title, as well as a USL Championship Best XI accolade. In 2024 with Tampa Bay, he recorded 11 shutouts across his 36 games in net. Farr does have a total 51 shutouts in his career so far, playing almost 12,600 minutes in net.
We’ve seen USL goalkeepers make the jump from the lower divisions to MLS before. Talents like Josh Cohen, Evan Louro, John McCarthy, James Pantemis, Trey Muse, and Hunter Slute are all goalkeepers on MLS rosters who have extensive experience within USL. I think a move like this secures a strong and cheaper back-up goalkeeper option for Lesesne to continue rebuilding this roster.
