There are currently severe traffic problems on the road to Dundee with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service posting an update which could have major implications for the Celtic away support this evening heading to Dens Park to play Dundee in the Scottish Premiership…

‘We are in attendance at a fire within a recycling centre on Lower Friarton Road, Perth. Due to large volumes of smoke we are asking people to avoid the area and close windows and doors in nearby homes. The Friarton Bridge on the M90 is also closed.’

There is a huge fire at the recycling centre just below the bridge for the second time in a few years and this is currently causing significant traffic problems in and around Perth and on the road to Dundee where Celtic are playing tonight in the Scottish Premiership at Dens Park against Dundee.

A section of the M90 has been closed on Tuesday morning due to a nearby recycling centre fire. Emergency services were called to Perth’s Lower Friarton Road following reports of a fire within a recycling centre at around 4.30am.

Due to the amount of smoke, police officers have closed off the Friarton Bridge, which passes over the River Tay, in both directions. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service has urged nearby residents to ensure their windows and doors are closed.

Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney, who is a local MSP, has taken to social media to update residents and commuters on this serious incident. More on this developing story at The Courier.

Currently delays are reportedly OVER THREE HOURS to get around Perth. The Dundee v Celtic match in the Scottish Premiership kicks off at 8pm so the Celtic traffic should be hoping to cross the Friarton Bridge on the M90 around 6ish. That hopefully gives enough time for the traffic chaos caused by this large scale fire to clear and for our away support to get to the game on time.

Celtic travelled to their pre-match hotel in St Andrews last night so will be unaffected by today’s incident should it continue to have an impact on traffic on the M90 throughout the late afternoon and into this evening.

A victory this evening with restore Celtic’s 18 points lead over theRangers who play Aberdeen at Ibrox tomorrow night.

John Paul Taylor, the Celtic FC SLO has advised supporters to use alternative routes this evening.

“Bridge remains closed, worth considering alternative routes for tonight's match and allow additional time for your journey,” JP stated. The update posted alongside this advice talks about the length of delays being much shorter than is being reported on social media by folk currently stuck in the traffic.

TRAVEL UPDATE – Friarton Bridge has now re-opened. Still delays heading south but should now be fine for the Celtic buses and cars heading to Dundee this evening.
