Manchester United were unable to get off to a winning start under new head coach Ruben Amorim after failing to beat newly promoted Ipswich Town on Sunday afternoon.
Despite taking an early lead, United couldn’t fend off a spirited Ipswich side who equalized just before half-time and could have found a winner had it not been for Andre Onana.
Amorim admitted his players were “overthinking” in certain areas as he attempts to build the confidence back in the squad after a poor start to the season.
Alongside his Premier League debut, the Portuguese coach was introduced to a pop superstar at Portman Road, although probably not in ideal circumstances.
As reported by the Daily Mail, Ed Sheeran gatecrashed Amorim’s post match interview with Sky Sports, with the Ipswich fan and minority shareholder clearly more happy with the result than the United boss.
Sheeran came over to greet pundit Jamie Redknapp in the midst of Amorim answering a question before saying “I don’t think he (Amorim) wants to speak to me”.
Amorim didn’t look too impressed with the interruption as Sheeran continued “I love being back in the Premier League”.
Fans took to social media to criticize the singer who was labelled as ‘rude’ by many of the watching public.
The United coach did continue with the interview but after overseeing a lacklustre display could have done without the rather awkward moment caused by Sheeran.
Amorim’s United got off to a dream start at Portman Road with Marcus Rashford opening the scoring after just 80 seconds.
Amad Diallo’s wonderful assist was forced home by Rashford who started the game through the middle in a role he still doesn’t look ultra-comfortable in.
However, Omari Hutchinson’s deflected long range strike meant United had to settle for a draw on Amorim’s debut and will have to wait for their first win under the new coach.
United moved up to 12th with the point bur are now six points off the top four places, which the new head coach will eventually hope to overturn by the end of the campaign. Feature image Richard Pelham via Getty Images
