Edoardo Bove recounts how Mourinho’s nickname for him hurt in the long run | OneFootball

Former Roma man Edoardo Bove was asked to discuss his relationship with Jose Mourinho.

It was the Special One, after all, who gave Bove a chance to shine with Roma’s first team, allowing him to evolve into the player that he is now at Fiorentina.

In an interview with Radio Deejay, Bove looked back on Mourinho’s nickname for him Cane malato (Sick dog) and how that affected him in the long run.

“Mourinho nicknamed me ‘sick dog’ and it didn’t help, but I know he loved me,” said Bove.

“In big-time football, some coaches ask for something more and your qualities go under the radar. When you’re chasing everyone, it’s not easy to be lucid with the ball at your feet. That was my issue.”

“In the first games, you’re never brave, there’s always a bit of emotion and you hide. Over time, you gain familiarity and responsibility.”

“This year at Fiorentina I feel at the centre of the project. I can’t say anything against Le Fée who took my place, we still talk and we’re great friends.”
