With Omar Marmoush’s transfer to Manchester City a mere formality at this point, Markus Krösche and the Eintracht Frankfurt administrative team continue their search for a short-term replacement for the Bundesliga’s second leading goal-scorer. Arnaud Kalimuendo of Rennes and Jonathan Burkardt of Mainz remain – according to most German rumour mills – long-term targets for the off-season.

RMC Sport journalist Fabrice Hawkins lists Olympique Marseille striker Elye Wahi as a potential purchase. The Ligue 1 outfit seek a base-transfer fee of €25m for the 22-year-old. The former RC Lens man and French Olympic representative has scored three goals and registered one assist in 14 appearances across all competitions this season.

Germany’s Sport Bild tabloid meanwhile claims that Brøndby IF forward Mathias Kvistgaarden is on the SGE short-list. Kvistgaarden, with an estimated market worth of €8m, counts as a cheaper option. The Danish youth international can also play on both wings as an adequate support pillar for Hugo Ekitiké.

It remains to be seen whether Krösche and Eintracht sporting director Timmo Hardung shall prioritise the signing of a replacement striker in the current January transfer window at all. SGE trainer Dino Toppmöller has deployed Igor Matanovic, Can Uzun, and Jean-Manuel Bahoya in forward attacking roles.

With said players all achieving reasonable success in their various appearances, the roster thus potentially has plenty of actors capable of stepping into the breach.
