After a frustrating 1-1 draw against Portugal to open group play. England came into their successive clash against Iberian opposition, and, in truth, were not the better of the two sides on display.

Sarina Wiegman's Lionesses opened the scoring in the 33rd minute through a close-range finish from Jessica Park.

The Man City winger did well to convert the loose ball after Alessia Russo's original effort deflected off defender Irene Paredes, setting England away with the lone goal of the night.

But from then on it was largely La Roja on the front foot, who not only dominated the ball (56%) but more than doubled England's chances as Montserrat Tomé's side looked to bag another point in the wake of their opening 3-2 win against Belgium to gain possession of the group.

England would ultimately hold on, however, defending well and often deep to neutralize Spain's attacking class, forcing the visitors to look to long-range efforts.

After Portugal's 1-0 win over Belgium earlier this evening, England sit level with them on four points with one group fixture remaining.
