Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca has raved about Marc Cucurella after the win against Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The Blues got the better of Leicester 1-0 at home in London in the Premier League.

Cucurella scored the only goal of the match on the hour mark when he beat Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen with a left-footed effort from 25 yards.

It was the £56 million (ESPN) left-back’s fifth goal of the season and his second in successive Premier League games.

Chelsea, who have been linked with Benjamin Sesko, are now fourth in the Premier League table with 49 points from 28 matches.

The London outfit are two points above defending champions and fifth-placed Manchester City.

Chelsea boss Maresca has been hugely impressed with the 26-year-old Spain international left-back and has noted what makes him special.

Maresca told Football.London about Cururella: “Marc scored already when Nico was there. Marc has something that is difficult to find. He is clever and is intelligent.

“He scored two goals against Wolves and Brentford and he is probably the smallest one in the team and this showed you how intelligent he is because he is in the right position.

“He is playing like an attacking midfielder and is doing fantastic. He has scored four or five goals with us.”

Cucurella is one of the first names on the Chelsea teamsheet for Premier League games when he is fit and available.

Maresca rates the Spain international so highly that he has included him 24 times in his starting line-up in the Premier League so far this season, with two substitute appearances for the defender.

The 26-year-old has scored four goals and provided one assist in those games.

There was no surprise to see Cucurella start at left-back for Chelsea against Leicester.

The Spaniard is a very important attacking threat for Chelsea, and he showed that again against Leicester.

Encouragingly, Cucurella was defensively solid as well and made sure that Leicester did not have much joy down his side.

Chelsea will return to action on Thursday evening when they take on Kobenhavn at Stamford Bridge in the second leg of their UEFA Conference League last-16 tie.

The Blues will head into the match in London with a 2-1 advantage from the first leg.
