Real Madrid are flying high in La Liga and are currently the leaders by a full four points over second-placed Atletico Madrid.
Their form in the league has been great and they kept it going last weekend with a 3-0 win over Real Valladolid.
Later this week, they return to action in La Liga against another relegation-threatened opposition in Espanyol, but the Catalans appear to be confident in their chances of pulling off an upset.
Speaking to the media (h/t Mundo Deportivo) in the buildup to the clash against Real Madrid, Espanyol defender Carlos Romero commented on the difficult game ahead but how the team were working hard to pull off a win.
“We know the calendar we have. It’s a very difficult month, we all have tough ones.”
“Now comes Real Madrid. Our fans are looking forward to this great game. Surely with their support, we will try to win the game,” he added.

Elaborating on the current league leaders and what made them such a difficult opposition to face, Romero said,
“[Real Madrid] are one of the best in the world. In such games you have to go out with everything – to compete, to fight for every ball and we know that we have to make the most of our chances.”
He added that given the home advantage, they would do their best to pull off an upset and record a special win at the RCDE Stadium.
“With our people, we will try to take three points. If they cheer us on, anything can happen. In these games, we need a 12th player which is the fans. Obviously, with them we are stronger,” he said.
Finally, the defender closed out his interview by expressing conviction and belief in their goal and sending a message to Real Madrid that his side would be ready.
“We are going to achieve the goal, we are working on it every day. We don’t look beyond the weekend game. We are convinced that we are going to achieve it.”
