Christian Vieri offered his verdict on Sunday night’s Serie A blockbuster match between Atalanta and Inter Milan.
Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport via FCInterNews, Vieri admitted both teams are in ‘great shape’ ahead of tomorrow’s game.
One of the most intense Scudetto races in recent memory is entering a crunch phase.
With only three points separating the leading trio, there’s very little room for error.
Inter sit at the top of the pile, a point clear of second-placed Napoli.
However, Gian Piero Gasperini could still spoil Nerazzurri’s bid to defend the title, with Atalanta lagging three points behind.
Therefore, Inter will put their Scudetto credentials on the line at the Gewiss Stadium tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Vieri insists this match will not decide the title race.
“After this, there are still nine more games, right? It’s not absolutely decisive, but it’s extremely important,” Vieri said.
“Because the title race isn’t just between two teams, and Napoli is playing away at Venezia.
“If things go as they should… I say ‘should,’ okay?”
Asked who would use three points more, Vieri replied: “If Atalanta wins, those three points would be very, very heavy – also for Napoli.
“There would still be 27 points left to play for, sure. But gaining or losing three all at once…

“If Inter loses, Inzaghi can only do one thing: walk into the locker room and say, ‘We’re not thinking about it anymore, focus only on the next matches – Serie A, Champions League, Coppa Italia.’
“Having so many games to play helps; you don’t have time to dwell on it.
“And history shows that sometimes chasing isn’t necessarily a bad thing.”
However, if they win, Inter would probably knock Atalanta out of the Scudetto race.
“This might be their toughest hurdle from now until the end,” Vieri admitted.
“But they’ll probably still have Napoli right behind them. So, the fun continues.
“The Atalanta I saw in Turin is scary. And they’ve had a whole week to focus only on this game.
“But Inter didn’t struggle against Feyenoord either. Both teams are arriving in top form.”
Vieri also urged Simone Inzaghi not to overthink his tactics for tomorrow.
“Maybe small tweaks, but he doesn’t need to reinvent anything. He has the strongest squad.”
