Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle are both keen on Peterborough United's Hector Kyprianou, Football League World can exclusively reveal
Struggling Championship duo Cardiff City and Plymouth Argyle are both looking into a potential move for Peterborough United captain Hector Kyprianou, Football League World can exclusively reveal.
Cardiff and Plymouth are currently 23rd and 24th in the Championship respectively, and will both be eyeing the January transfer window as a significant and unmissable opportunity to strengthen their survival hopes.
Plymouth have already landed the signature of Ghanaian attacking midfielder Michael Baidoo from Elfsborg, and whilst they search for Wayne Rooney's replacement in the dugout at Home Park, they are also getting active in their hunt to strengthen the squad.
Sources have exclusively informed Football League World that Cardiff and Argyle are both eyeing a deal for Kyprianou, who faces an uncertain future at Peterborough.
The Posh skipper is out of contract in the summer. But as he turns 24 at the end of May before his deal expires, Peterborough will not be entitled to gain a tribunal-determined compensation fee for his services as they would with star winger Kwame Poku, as well as Ricky-Jade Jones, who, as first revealed by Football League World just yesterday, has been the subject of an enquiry from the Bluebirds.
City manager Omer Riza has since confirmed the club are in discussions over a move for Jones, with three to four signings being eyed before the January window closes.
Kyprianou's future remains unclear, as Peterborough may have to sanction a sale for the talented midfielder this month in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer - unless fresh terms are struck.
Bournemouth were linked with the Cypriot international last January, although a move to the Championship now appears more likely in order to continue his first-team football development.
It's been a difficult campaign for Peterborough and Kyprianou, with the skipper having spent the best part of two months sidelined with a hamstring injury earlier on in the season.
Kyprianou has since returned to full fitness and remains a consistent starter for Darren Ferguson's side, who are currently 19th in League One.
The ex-Leyton Orient starlet has made 15 league appearances for Posh this season, scoring once and adding an assist. His most productive campaign came last time out, where he notched eight goals from midfield as Posh made it to the Championship play-off semi-finals.
