David Prutton has told FLW how he thinks Sheffield Wednesday will fare without Danny Rohl amid uncertainty over his future
David Prutton is not concerned yet about what Sheffield Wednesday might look like if Danny Rohl departs.
It has been reported by Florian Plettenberg that RB Leipzig are interested in potentially appointing the German.
Both Leicester City and Southampton have also been linked with the 35-year-old following his strong performances in charge of the Owls.
Rohl has overseen an impressive 18 months with Sheffield Wednesday, with the team set to secure a comfortable mid-table finish in the Championship this year.
Prutton has praised the work Rohl has done since taking charge at Sheffield Wednesday back in October 2023.
But he believes that there’s no immediate need to worry about the club should he leave, and that the Owls will be in an intriguing position if he departs.
“I think first of all, the job that he’s done has been superb, he’s really endeared himself to the Wednesday fans,” Prutton exclusively told Football League World.
“It’s tricky to see what Sheffield Wednesday are next season given how this season, once again, has been a chat about off-field [issues].
“The ability to kick on, and I think it dovetails into the personnel as well that they’ve got, whether the squad’s good enough to mount a promotion push, which they’ve flirted with obviously, off the back of a slummy start to the season and a strong finish the end of the last one.
“The Championship’s now super tough, it’s got a real edge and a bite to it with regards to the size of teams coming down, the size of teams coming up.
“I’m intrigued, I don’t know about worried or fearing for them to struggle, I don’t know if that’s my take on it.
“But I’m intrigued to see potentially, and this is jumping the gun with Danny leaving, what it does look like if Danny does go.”
Sheffield Wednesday are currently 14th in the Championship table with only four games remaining in the campaign.
Rohl has done an excellent job with Sheffield Wednesday to establish them back in the Championship after it looked certain they were heading for relegation when he took over.
The German has instilled a lot of enthusiasm for the team from supporters, and losing him would be a really big blow to that relationship.
He’s brought results and an exciting style of football, while getting the club to punch above its weight relative to its spending power.
It’s no surprise that he’s been coveted by bigger teams, and it should be seen as crucial by owner Dejphon Chansiri to give him the proper backing this summer to ensure he stays.
