Wycombe Wanderers have insisted Richard Kone is not for sale amid multiple bids from Luton Town, Football League World understands
Wycombe Wanderers have insisted star striker Richard Kone is not for sale despite receiving a number of bids from Matt Bloomfield's Luton Town, Football League World understands.
Kone's immediate future in Buckinghamshire has been a hot topic this month, with his goalscoring displays in League One prompting significant interest.
The 21-year-old notched his 15th and 16 league goals of the season in Wycombe's 2-1 win over Barnsley on Tuesday evening, taking his tally up to 19 strikes from all competitions.
Kone has led Wycombe to a shock promotion push this season, with the Chairboys currently second in League One behind Birmingham City.
FLW has learned of strong interest from the Hatters in Kone's signature over the last month.
Most recently, after breaking various stories surrounding this specific saga, FLW revealed a £6 million bid made by Luton earlier this week.
That figure, of course, would represent a staggering sum by League One standards and could offer Wycombe a healthy cash injection in the final days of the winter window.
However, FLW now understands Wycombe are reluctant to sell Kone to the Championship strugglers despite receiving sizable offers.
It's not yet clear if Luton and recently-appointed ex-Chairboys boss Matt Bloomfield intend on lodging an increased bid.
Bloomfield knows all about Kone, of course, having first signed him for Wycombe last January.
If a deal does end up going through, an undoubted blow would be imposed on Wycombe's aspirations of returning to the Championship this season.
Kone is League One's leading scorer and has played an instrumental role in the Chairboys' shock promotion charge, which could be dismantled should he leave for Kenilworth Road.

The caveat to that is Wycombe would receive a significant sum to invest in a replacement, of course, but there is a risk of any potential successor to the Ivorian frontman failing to instantly hit the ground running and retain their automatic promotion bid.
Kone is on fire at the minute and is showing no signs of slowing down, so keeping him beyond the window would be a huge boost as they continue to plug away at a return to English football's second tier.
